Finding the Lost Sheep

The Bible is full of stories and the stories can teach children as well as adults how to live a pretty decent life. Extracting the meaning from most of the parables isn't that difficult. We cannot say for a fact that our interpretations of these parables are true, I say to you truly, what do you think Jesus really meant.

We have heard stories like these for years, biblical scholars, pastors and other Christian leaders, even my Sunday school teacher could explain most of the parables as they were taught. These teachers of course were taught by their teachers and who knows how long the meaning of these stories have remained the same. Meaning to the parables could have easily changed over the centuries.

Here's one of the parables about the lost sheep, read it and then, spend some time evaluating it, to see if you really know what it means, or at least take your best guess.

If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost.

If we lost one of our children or were driving through the forest one day and noticed a man upsets and panicking as he's running around furiously looking for something. Most of us would would be curious or nosy, it's our human nature I guess, thanks a lot God, we would probably try to find out what was going on and offer our assistance.

The parable clearly shows an example of someone searching for something that he dearly cares about. This makes a lot of sense but can have different meanings, especially if it's read during different stages in our lives. Whether God created man or we evolved somehow on earth, one thing is for sure, most of us seem to care about our loved ones and will travel to the ends of the earth if they were to lost.

Sometimes lost sheep are standing right in front of us, we reach out to help them and they do not respond. Maybe you're one of the lies sheep, spending most of your time helping other sheep, but really you're the one who needs the help. Education can set you free from religious bondage.

One-Percent After All

Our mistakes are just something to learn from and move on, and not something to keep us in self-pity forever. Now, I just want to continue a little bit from that. When you have understood that your mistakes in the past are some sort of stepping stone to you and not a stumbling block, then try to see the brighter side of life.

Want to talk about what I call my One-Percent-After all. Are all things SEEMINGLY turning against you?. I used the word- SEEMINGLY because ALL things NEVER really turn against us. It's just that most of the times, we have PARTICULAR things that we feel are supposed to be right and when they are not right, it SEEMS EVERYTHING is against us. But the moment we stick our head out of that one thing we want and look at other things, we see that SO MANY other things are ACTUALLY working for us. So it's like this: 99 percent of a whole lot of stuffs might seem to be wrong to us, but there is one-percent that is right after all.

Your problem may be your kids, but you have a husband, a nice job and some good friends to be grateful for (for instance). To some other persons, it could be their husband, but the kids are there, the nice friends are there, etc.

Today, I want you to decide to see at least one more reason why you should not kill your self with self pity or why you should not be sad and be grateful for it. There's always ONE-PERCENT-AFTER ALL...

Strategies to Be Up in a Down Economy

Everywhere you look there are signs of a down economy, but you do not have to let it get you down. The best way to get through a difficult situation is to have a positive outlook, hope for a better tomorrow, and do your best to keep your spirits up. Here are three strategies that will help.

Create a Worry Jar
On a piece of paper, write down the problem you are worried about. Fold the paper in half, and then fold it in half again. Put the paper into a jar. Use a jar with a screw top or a cork top. As you put the paper into the jar and screw or push down the lid, say a prayer to your divine source. Your divine source may be God or Goddess, angels, the Universe or the Energy, a spirit guide, or a loving person in your life who has passed over. Give the problem over to this source for three days. During these three days, every time you think about the problem, say a prayer of thanks to your divine source for taking care of the problem. Also, during these three days, listen to the small inner whispers that guide you to any answers you seek.

At the end of the three days, open the jar and read what you wrote. You may find the problem had disappeared. If not, you have two choices. You can either return the problem to the worry jar with renewed prayers, or you can decide that you are more powerful than your divine source and take back the problem.

The idea with the worry jar is that you are not alone in this world. We all have help that comes through from people in our lives, people we meet, and from angels, God, spirit guides-ways that seem magical in how everything just seems to happen. All of these are help from your divine source. All you need to do is to ask for help, let go of the problem, listen for guidance, and give thanks the problem is solved.

Scream and Dream
Ever since The Secret swept into people's consciousness, the law of attraction has become fodder for everyday conversation. People around the globe are using the law of attraction to manifest abundance regardless of what pundits say about the economy. But what about those times when we are unable to manifest what we want and our frustration level builds? These are the times that call for a scream-not just any scream-but a primal scream.

Primal screams are not to be taken lightly and not to be used on a regular basis as a way to deal with stress. A primal scream helps you release old, pent up frustrations when exercise or meditation are not working because of the high stress levels that have built up in your body.

Be aware of family members- including pets-and any neighbors who might hear you scream and come running or call the authorities thinking you are hurt or in danger. Being alone in a rural location is ideal, but you can you accomplish the same results in a city neighborhood.

Begin by taking a few moments to experience all the stress and frustration you are holding in your body. Then from the deepest part of yourself, let a scream come forth and feel it moving through every part of your body and then out of your body. Use your entire breath to experience the vibration of the scream as it moves through your body and passes away. Feel the sensations in you body as it empties the stress. In a city environment, experience the same body sensations, but scream silently. The experience is just as potent. As the scream ends, you may experience laughter or a moment of fatigue. Certainly you will feel that a great weight has been lifted from you, and you will experience a profound peace.

In this state of profound peace where you have just screamed out any defenses you put up against realizing your dreams, visualize that which you want to create for your life. Dream big, and be sure to give thanks for the release and the newfound knowing that you are turning your dreams into reality.

Redirect Your Thoughts
The thoughts we dwell on can lead to happiness or depression. Redirecting negative thoughts can help you be more resilient, open to inner creative guidance that urges you to new avenues, and help you feel good about yourself, all of which brings happiness.

Fold a piece of paper in half. Title the left column "Negative Thoughts." Title the right column "Positive Thoughts." In the left column, write down everything you are worried about. Write down all those ifs and worst case scenarios. You list might read like this: "The unemployment rate is nearly 10 percent. What if I lose me job? If I lose my job, how will I pay the mortgage? If I can't pay the mortgage, where will we live? What if I get sick? If I get sick, how will I work? If I can't work, how will we pay the bills?" You get the idea.

In the right hand column, the Positive Thoughts column, write positive counter-thoughts. Your right hand column might read something like this: "A 10 percent unemployment rate is a 90 percent employed rate. I am employed right now and have money coming in to pay the mortgage, for which I am grateful. I have a home for my family, and I am grateful. Divine Source is in every cell of my body and every cell is perfect. I am healthy, and I am grateful."

From the Positive Thoughts column, choose one of your statements to repeat every time you catch yourself thinking, or saying aloud, any negative thought. You'll be surprised how many times during the day you'll catch yourself. Make a game of rewriting any negative thoughts, and have fun.

By writing down your negative thoughts and countering them with positive thoughts, you are on your way to creating a better tomorrow and staying up in a down economy.

Happiness Is Real

Happiness need no longer be an illusion. It can be as real as the earth we stand on. Still, if we seek happiness directly, we will not find it. Yet, it's important to do the activities that will make us happy. In a recent article it was reported that the "simple" pleasures are what lead to genuine happiness. Winning the lottery does not compare to hanging out with friends. An immediate rush will occur from winning the lottery, or getting a job you want, or buying a car you desire. But, the daily pleasures seem to be what leads to happiness. And, of course, it's important to be moderate in these pleasures. Too much of a good thing will turn it bad.

In our rushed lives, with ever increasing stresses, making sure simple pleasures occur can be an enormous challenge. Often having a buddy to remind you to tune in to the easy to obtain joys of life can be a huge help.

Sometimes scheduling enjoyable activities into your life will do the trick. It may seem counterintuitive to schedule pleasure. But, in busy lives it's often necessary to schedule activities to be sure they get done. Why not, then, put time into your schedule for pleasure? Write it right into your calendar.

Likely we don't need to go over the list of activities that give you pleasure. If you're overly stressed you probably know what you wish you could do. Recently I took a yoga class, and loved it. I had been wanting to do this for at least two years and somehow could not find the time. Now that I've experienced such great satisfaction I'm making sure to put yoga on my weekly calendar.

Once you start paying attention to activities you really enjoy, you're likely to realize that you feel both emotionally and physically better when you do them. Often it's difficult to make that first step into the place of happiness. We get so used to the routines of our lives. But the rewards to be experienced from making that first step will keep you moving forward. See them, feel them, and definitely believe in them.

Maybe you're already doing activities that give you pleasure, but for some reason you're not doing enough of them. You may even be telling yourself that you don't have time in your busy life to have more pleasure. But, happiness need not be a choice if you're willing to take the leap of altering your habits. It's a tough decision because we become used to our lives as they are. But, once we make the leap we can as well become used to the new habits of happiness.

The Word of His Grace

From the way some people live their lives, it's quit evident that they haven't really developed absolute relationship and confidence in the Word of God. Paul said, "Now brethren, I commend you to the Word of God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified" (Acts 20:32). The Word of His grace is God's eternal Word. There's something fantastic about this scripture; Paul didn't tell the brethren I commend you to the president, governor, senator, uncle, aunt, because the arm of man we fail you no matter how good and assuring their word may sound but he tells us that the Word of God is able to build you up and give you an inheritance, which suggest we should live our life trusting the Word with Wholehearted devotion.

Many of us are like the stranger boy Joseph later turned the prime minister of Egypt, who forgot for once that he was the custodian of the Abraham covenant and stoop low to ask the kings cupbearer whom he will later rule to make mention of him unto pharaoh, and bring him out of prison (Gen 40:14-15). What he didn't know was that he carried the promises of God and all of Egypt had been given to him to possess but no sooner that the cupbearer left prison he forgot Joseph and the bible records that it took him two years to remember his friend Joseph at the incidence of the king needing someone to interpret his dream. Many a times in our earthly daily life just like Joseph, situation arises for us to get people put a word across for us, commend us about our job, character, faithfulness to a course especially when we want to change jobs or get promoted that we forget God's promises to us. But no matter were the commendation comes from whether from a high ranking government official, a political figure, friend, colleagues etc but one thing is sure no commendation comes close to what God says about you in His Word. That alone is EXCITING and something to SHOUT ABOUT!!!!!!!

God's Word is able; it possesses the inherent ability to produce whatever it talks about! The Word can build you up in your academics and make you a better student, can turn a nagging wife to the most lovable wife ever, can build up that broken marriage and restore it back with more love, bliss, joy and happiness, can turn that wayward daughter and son and make them the most submissive and obedient children ever. The Word can also build you up physically (bodily), financially and spiritually.

Have you commended your life to the Word of God? You ought to realize by now that the Word of God is the solution to any trial or challenge that you would ever face. May be I should again remind you that God made all things through the Word of His grace. Learn today to commend yourself and all of your life's circumstances to the Word of God by talking back and trusting His Word, so go for the Word because that's where you can obtain true respite from all shackles of life. God's Word is true and guaranteed to produce results; it does not fail.

A Poem - Faithful Servants

A Contrite Heart God will not despise.
All is laid out before His eyes.
He searches this earth to and fro.
For faithful servants who have woe.

A broken heart God will not despise.
For The Heavenly Father is all wise.
Atonement for sins, or a blood sacrifice?
Some say Jesus the Christ will not die twice.

All tongues will confess and every eye will see.
Only God knows when this earth will end.
I am just a small part of the universe, yes you and me.
This earth will end, so think on good deeds like the angels send.
Poetry expresses thoughts and emotions that speak to our hearts and minds.
Many people believe in God, but use religion and not spirituality to tell others what is right and what is wrong. Who knows how to tell another to live? Guidance for doing good is better.

Many wars and deaths have been committed in the name of differing religions. But God loves all His creations and is good to the evil and the good. And yet, He is a God of justice and is Truth. Each He gives to freely. Each He gives free will. As a poet, I try to show others a glimpse of my heart and mind. I believe God wants us all to get along, take care of this earth, and each other in the best way we know how. It is truly hard to see ourselves as others see us, for mankind judges unjustly by what he sees and not the heart. People all over the world have become selfish and greedy. however there is more good than bad in the world. God is a God of abundance and holds out His hand to all creatures to feed and nourish them. Why should we not thank Him for the grain we consume in order to live? Why do we not thank Him that one of His creatures had to die for us to live? Oh we humans who ungratefully use the earth in bad ways for money and pleasures. Are we not all made of the same fabric of life?

Evangelism - 'Connections' Day 7 "Let's Show Others They can do it Too (and Don't Forget to Learn!)"

Evangelism, JESUS Centred, resources for the Christian Church. Biblical, Scripture audio for ideas. Witnessing skills for church builders, including youth and Evangelism.
As John the Baptist (quoting Isaiah 40) said: Prepare the way for the lord, make straight paths for him

'Connections', a 7 day Everyday Evangelism mini seminar

Day 7: Lets show others they can do it too (and dont forget to learn!)

Of course I want you to share this series with others, but more I want you to share with them what you have learnt and ARE doing. Encourage others where you are. Learn from them too. Keep reading good evangelistic books and attending seminars to improve your skills. Do more courses like this and apply everything you learn. Do this forever. Yes, forever because I believe God will still be instructing us in Heaven. This is most important. The most successful people are all proud to be wearing L Plates on their back. There is always more to learn. You will never know it all. Remember that and much wisdom will come your way.

Not at all contradicting the above let me give a word of warning! Dont just become a seminar junkie. Use what you learn! Dont just put this on the shelf to stay there forever. Prioritize what you learn. It takes time and effort to apply these simple procedures. Remember you are investing yourself in people and the work God has called you to do. Dont be a perpetual student! You cant do every evangelistic course there is on offer. Pick which is best for you.

I believe I have founded, enhanced and generally improved lots of edgy evangelistic Christian ministry over the last few decades. Despite this self-praise (hey, somebody has to compliment me ), I dont think any of my ideas were original. Most were adapted from other successful Evangelists work. I merely changed them to suit my context. Im always hungry for new ideas. I think thats a key. Always be hungry to show others (humbly) and learn from them how God is bringing people into the Kingdom.

Everything must be done through the power of the Holy Spirit. I was told once doing Gods work was like body surfing. When you saw a wave, you paddled like hell (pardon the pun) to catch it, not knowing whether it would be a short ride or a rocket right into the beach or something in between. You just have to make sure its Gods wave.

Model what it is to be Gods Evangelist. Model being an Ambassador for Jesus Christ. Take to heart what the Apostle Paul says: We are therefore Christs ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christs behalf: Be reconciled to God 2 Corinthians 5: 20. Think on this! The creator of the universe chooses to work through us, his people.

Thank you for doing this Connections 7 Day Seminar. I pray it has reminded you of things you already knew. I also hope you learnt some new things. I hope I have triggered some heartstrings for you that have been placed there by God.

May God bless you in all your endeavors.

My parting thoughts for now:

Find one person in your church (or elsewhere) that has brought others to our Lord. Encourage that person and ask them what methods and tools they use. Learn and (humbly) share what you are doing.

I am a Commissioned Church Army Officer. Church Army is a world wide Anglican society of Evangelists. I was commissioned in 1991 after obtaining a Diploma of Evangelism (Dip. Ev.) from the Church Army College Australia.

Currently, I am the full-time Anglican Chaplain for the Silverwater Correctional Centre located in the western suburbs of Sydney, Australia. I have worked here on the complex for over ten years.

Before my Chaplaincy I was on staff (evangelist) at Saint Andrews Cathedral working with homeless people in Sydneys inner city. From there I joined Streetwork, working with drug effected and street youth. I also was involved in pub ministry. One of my main tasks (as an evangelist) was putting into place structures to connect local churches with these groups so ongoing ministry would be effective.
